This is an original vintage 224 shell. BUT I've changed out the broken steam chest for one from another engine. I've repaired the shorted motor field wire and added a regular Lionel smoke unit that is piston driven. The e-unit works great in both forward and reverse. It is a three position unit: forward - neutral - reverse. I've cleaned and polished the locomotive's and the tender's armatures, and dug out the debris between its stators. Now, both work exceptionally well.

The 224 shown above now has the following features.
  • I've added a Lionel regular smoke unit which uses a piston & cylinder to puff out smoke.
  • If you look closely in one of the photographs, you can actually see the smoke crank.
  • I've polished the armature stators, removed debris between them.
  • I've cleaned the e-unit so that it works very well.
  • There are new green prisms in its marker lights.
  • The steam chest is from another locomotive because the original had part of its cowcatcher broken off.
  • I've wire-brushed and cleaned the connecting rods and valve gear.
  • One of the valve gears is missing BUT it has been ordered and will be added when it arrives.
  • Using a special procedure, I've removed many nicks, gouges, and worn spots from the original paint.
  • This 224 is lubricated and ready to operate on your layout.
The tender shown above has these features.
  • 1.  An all metal air whistle that blows very easily.
  • 2. It has a middle pickup wheel on each truck.
  • 4.  In the tender's rear, there are now 2-red lights.
  • 5.  There is also a white worklight to brighten the area where a fireman would shovel coal.
  • 6.  I've removed all caked on debris from the tender's wheels.

Fiesta ST Concept (2012 / 2013) to show at Frankfurt

Sat, 10 Sep 2011

Ford Fiesta ST - expected at Frankfurt There was a time when it seemed likely Ford would abandon all plans for a hot Fiesta. They seemed convinced that a Fiesta ST would be anathema in our seemingly eco-obsessed times, but fortunately they’ve had a change of heart. We reported back in September 2010 – after we had spy shots of what appeared to be the new Fiesta ST – that Ford were planning to cash-in on their WRC Fiest profile to finally bring us a Fiesta with a bit more get-up-and-go than the Zetec S could manage.

Puzzling Parking Signs 'Confuse' Motorists

Fri, 27 Jun 2014

A NEW survey has revealed that parking signs confuse motorists, to the point that it can lead to drivers being penalised for their unintended transgressions. The poll, conducted by car insurance company Churchill, found that of those fined, clamped or who had their vehicle towed away in the last two years, 22% said they were unable to understand the parking restrictions in that area. Also, 41% of the 2,001 people polled said parking signs in their area were confusing, while 33% avoided parking in their local town or city centre for this very reason In addition, the puzzling signs led to 9% avoiding parking around their own residential area.

Scrappage: US to get Cash for Clunkers

Wed, 10 Jun 2009

The US is to get their own Scrappage Scheme - Cash for Clunkers So even though our Scrappage Scheme is pretty flawed, it may well be having an impact – at least until the relatively modest amount set-aside for the scheme by the Government is exhausted. And now it’s the turn of the US to launch a Scrappage Schem – Cash for Clunkers. Cash for Clunkers legislation was passed yesterday in the US to try and kick-start US car sales, and give a boost to beleaguered car makers like GM and Chrysler.
