But none of the cars tested could manage more than three stars for pedestrian protection. Daihatsu's Materia supermini and, surprisingly, the Honda Civic trailed the pack with only four stars for occupant safety, but the Merc C-class, Renault Laguna, Volvo V70 and – impressively – the tiny Mazda 2 all came out with the top score.

The 2013 Carens, the work of Peter Schreyer and his design team, was conceived around the theme of ‘dynamic space' and features a cab-forward design with a longer wheelbase, lower roofline and chrome beltline accent. But now, with the Continental GT3 strutting its stuff at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and ready to play, Bentley has seen fit to tell us how much power the GT3 has, and how much weight it’s shed. Remarkably, the Continental GT3′s weight is a substantial 100kg less than the road-going GT, weighing it at an almost lightweight 1300kg.
