BMW UK updates and extends 3 Series, 5 Series & 6 Series

Fri, 22 Jun 2012

BMW UK is adding new models and engines to its UK line-up, including xDrive 3 Series models, 520d Gran Turismo and a new 650i engine.

BMW UK is having a comprehensive update of UK models and options right across the range, with a focus on more economical options on the 3 Series, 5 Series and 6 series models.

Probably the big news for the BMW 3 Series is the arrival of the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 which gets the TwinPower 3.0 litre and a 55bhp electric motor to deliver 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds and official economy of 47.9mpg.

That makes the AcyiveHybrid 3 a chunk quicker and more economical the the ActiveHybrid 5 - not surprising as it has the same powertrain – and it’s available in SE, Modern, Luxury and M Sport Spec. The ActiveHybrid 3 costs from £40,225.

We also see the launch of 4WD on the new 3 Series with the arrival of the BMW 320i xDrive in SE spec offering a 0-62mph of 7.4 seconds and official economy of 41.4mpg or 43.5mpg if you opt for the new 8-speed auto.

You won’t have to pay extra for the new 8-speed auto if you opt for the 330d which gets the 3.0 litre TwinTurbo six-pot diesel with 258bhp, a o-62mph of 5.6 seconds and official economy of 57.6mpg. It costs from £33,280 as the 330d SE.

BMW M Sport specification also arrives next month for an extra £3k and includes the usual body extras, leather trim, M Sport seats and lots of M badges. You also get a Sport+ function.

Not arriving in July but here by November are the frugal petrol versions of the 3 Series with the 316i at £22,850 and offering 47.9mpg and the 320i EfficientDynamics at £25,730 which manages 53.3mpg.

It’s not just the three series that sees an update, the 5 Series does too. That means a new efficient 5 Series in the guise of the BMW 520d Gran Turismo with 53.3mpg, and comes with Auto Stop Start and ECO PRO which is now standard across the GT range.

Finally, July sees the BMW 650i Gran Coupe arrive – which costs from £70,650 for the SE version – with the new 4.4 litre TwinPower V8 with auto stop start and ECO Pro which combine to offer official economy of  31.7mpg and a 0-62mph of 4.6 seconds. The arrival of the 650i Gran Coupe also sees the new 4.4 V8 arrive in the 650o Coupe and Convertible with commensurate improvements in performance and economy on those models too.
