Oh, how things change.

It’s not long since Hyundai’s USP was the cheapness of its cars, but those days are now gone; Hyundai now competes head to head with mainstream makers as the strength of its products improves with every new model and its designs make Hyundai appealing without resorting to bargain basement headline prices.

That has been perfectly illustrated with the Red Dot Design awards for both the new Genesis and the new Generation i10, both of which have received the Red Dot Design award – a first for Hyundai.

The Red Dot jury is made up of 37 experts from 24 countries – all designers, professors or journalists – including high-profile names like Jimmy Choo, who awarded the all-new Genesis and new Generation i10 the first Red Dot Awards Hyundai has received for their cars.

Seob Lee, Hyundai’s Design VP, said:

The Red Dot award is widely recognized as one of the world’s most prestigious design awards and to receive two is a real honor. Distinctive design is helping us attract new customers and develop strong connections with them.

It is also the ultimate expression of what Hyundai offers – cars that are both good to drive and to look at. The All-New Genesis & New Generation i10 introduce ‘Fluidic Sculpture 2.0’, Hyundai Motor’s evolved design philosophy, which will be featured in all future Hyundai models.

It’s a well deserved pair of awards for Hyundai, and underlines how far the new Hyundai i10 has come and promises a strong showing for the new Hyundai Genesis when it starts to arrive in the UK and Europe.
