This PUR PowerSurvivor 40E Electric Desalinator Watermaker 12V is a best-selling watermaker for cruising sailboats and small yachts. Small and quiet, it can be mounted almost anywhere—simply tap into any existing seawater source such as engine intake, galley, etc. Only uses 4 amps. Its compact, simple design and stainless steel construction ensures reliability and low maintenance. Output is 1.5 gallons per hour.

This device is used with some aesthetic flaws, but in otherwise good mechanical condition. A brand-new membrane was installed in 2013, and it has not been re-installed for operation since. The only way we could verify the membrane would be by installing and operating the machine, and then "pickling" it for transport (potentially impairing the membrane, and increasing shipping weight). For this reason, we sell the device dry and "as is"! If you are a cruiser looking for a deal, this one is for you.

Please look closely at the photos and as all your questions in advance!

The PowerSurvivor 40E watermaker utilizes a low-volume, high-pressure, positive displacement pump. Unlike the centrifugal pumps found in some systems, a positive displacement pump is self-priming. It can also draw water when mounted several feet above the waterline of a vessel. Thus, the watermaker may be installed in *almost* any location and orientation. Although the design and operating requirements of the PowerSurvivor 40E allow much latitude for equipment location, there are several cautions and suggestions you should consider before proceeding with an installation.  A hardcopy of the original owners manual, with full installation details is included here with the device, and an analogous Katadyn*-branded product's manual is online. Just Google "PowerSurvivor 40E 12 Volt Watermaker Owner's Manual", and it should be the top return.

*PUR is now owned by Katadyn, the Switzerland-based market leader for portable, personal water treatment systems and products for the outdoor and marine industries.

The 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine arrives in the 2012 Ford Focus Ford has announced that the new Focus is now available with the 1.0 litre Ecoboost 3-cylinder engine in 100 PS and 125 PS options. Back in September, Ford revealed that it planned to install its new pocket-sized engine – the new 3-cylinder 1.0 litre Ecoboost – in to the new Ford Focus, giving the Focus the power of a naturally aspirated 1.6 litre petrol, but with improved economy and lower emissions. And now it’s arrived.

Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II (2014) first official pictures

Tue, 04 Mar 2014

By Ben Pulman First Official Pictures 04 March 2014 10:30 Rolls-Royce doesn’t facelift or revise its models quite like the rest of the world’s car manufacturers. Instead, mere mortal, you’re looking at the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II, and the company claims, quite seriously, that the launch of this revised über-saloon ‘consolidates the Ghost’s position as the most popular car in the €200,000+ class.’ And in case you’re not feeling suitably poor or unaccomplished this morning, Rolls would like to point out this car probably isn’t for you either. Customers who’ll buy the Ghost Series II, says Rolls, are ‘the captains of industry, entrepreneurs and successful businessmen and women who are the wealth and job creators in our economies.’ Unless you’re on first name terms with the PM, you’re probably not overly familiar with the Ghost, but those who party with ‘Dave’ should be able to spot the subtle revisions, including sleeker LED headlights with daytime running lights.

Opel / Vauxhall Mocha almost revealed as Buick Encore

Wed, 04 Jan 2012

Three quarters of the Bucik Encore - the American Mocha The European Opel / Vauxhall Mocha – a Corsa based SUV – has been almost revealed in the US with a tease for the Buick Encore. Just before Christmas we reported on a new Corsa-based SUV on the way from Vauxhall and Opel which looks like it’s going to be the Opel Mocha (and, we assume, the Vauxhall Mocha too). But in this new ‘One World’ for cars, where North America actually gets the sort of cars they would once have derided as too small to consider, the Mocha is also going on sale in the US.
